CELEBRATING PLURALISM WITH APPRECIATIVE INQUIRY

Socio-Cultural diversities in Indonesia represent a great grace or enjoyment which we deserve to celebrate. Some diversity potentials which are empowered and managed profoundly would become cultural capital necessary to boost our pluralism values. The dream of building the pluralism-based society in Indonesia should be made as the ultimate capital for establishment of our state’s unity and integration. The main question is what strategy or method we can use to realize and celebrate pluralism values in Indonesia. The answer to the question at issue is the objective of this paper, namely formulating a set of viewpoints or principles and strategies which one can use for celebration of the pluralismvalues using Appreciative Approach.
Furthermore, the celebration of the pluralism involves at least six freedom requirements, including the freedom of being recognized in any social relationship; freedom of being listened; freedom of having dream in community; freedom of making choices related to contribution we may give to others; freedom of engaging in any action with supports ; and freedom of being positive (Cooperrider, 2003: Whitney& Trosten-Bloom, 2003). The strength of Appreciative Inquiry originates in the strategy to explore those six freedoms deeply through the fully 5D-cycle. This cycle is encompassing. Definition, Discovery, Dream, Design, and Destiny (Cooperrider and Whitney, 2001; der Haar and Hosking, 2004). It is expected that the strength of Appreciative Inquiry becomes a breakthrough in the midst of various efforts in developing the Indonesian peacefull society through pluralism.
